Welcome to the Glenburn School Special Services Department

The Glenburn School Department has a K-8 School with approximately 430 students. Our high school students have school choice and attend Bangor High School, Brewer High School, John Bapst Memorial High School, Hampden Academy, Hermon High School and Orono High School. The school choice option provides students and families with access to many exceptional academic programs for children depending upon their educational preferences and post-secondary goals.

The Glenburn School offers a small and nurturing setting which allows staff the opportunity to provide more individualized academic attention and foster strong relationships with students.

Our special education department offers K-5 and 6-8 resource rooms with a focus on reading, math, and writing skills. There is a self-contained program for our life skills students where they learn functional academics and daily living skills. We work very closely with parents, community case managers, and other service providers to develop, support, and implement a comprehensive program to serve your child. We believe in educating students as close to their nondisabled peers as possible while we address areas of need through specialized instruction.

The Director follows all students with special needs when they transition to area high schools to ensure good coordination of services. The Director will attend all IEP meetings and is responsible for ensuring special education and related services are provided through the high school of choice.

Parents who suspect their child may have a disability that may require special education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Act or reasonable accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act should contact the Special Services Department to initiate a referral and schedule a meeting.
