Innovation School Open House

The new Southern Penobscot Regional Program for Children with Exceptionalities (SPRPCE) Innovation School is hosting a community Open House on Tuesday, August 22nd from 1-2:30 p.m. at Eastern Maine Community College in Room 219, Penobscot Hall. Follow signs and balloons.

Starting this September, seventh and eighth graders from communities surrounding Bangor will have a new option of where to attend school.

For up to forty students, the Innovation School will provide a unique blend of dynamic instruction and community-based, hands-on learning opportunities. Community members, educators, parents, and students are encouraged to attend the Open House and to meet the program’s instructors, Nate Cutting and Maynard Walton, Jr. and to learn more about this dynamic program. Utilizing a student-centered approach, the teachers are designing an opportunity for every student to personalize their work and to explore their own passions with career pathways.

The program will be based at Eastern Maine Community College, allowing the Innovation School to partner with various organizations and nonprofits in the greater Bangor area. Students will have the opportunity to apply the academic skills they learn in the classroom to challenging, and rewarding projects that enrich their communities.

This is will be an engaging program for students who are ready to develop leadership skills and take a more active role in their education.

The SPRPCE Innovation School is funded by an Educational Efficiencies and Opportunities Grant through the Maine Department of Education. Fourteen School Administrative Units, United Technologies Center, and Eastern Maine Community College are partners in the grant.
